Aion is a Centennial Monument and public art intervention honoring Southeastern Louisiana University’s 100-year legacy while projecting its vision for the future. Rooted in the values of fluidity, connectivity, and functionality, Aion serves as both a commemorative landmark and a catalyst for community engagement.
Inspired by the Greek concept of Aion—"eternal"—the project brings together key moments from the past and sets momentum for what is to come. Through its design and presence, the monument becomes a living timeline, inviting reflection, conversation, and discovery.
Aion embodies Southeastern’s commitment to lifelong learning and critical thinking by creating a space that stimulates intellectual creativity and curiosity. It fosters meaningful connections among students, faculty, and the wider community, transforming the site into an active, shared environment where histories are remembered and futures imagined.
Constructed with sustainable and durable materials, the piece stands as both a functional sculpture and a gathering space at the heart of the university’s campus—situated between D. Vickers Hall, the Student Union, and the Memorial Fountain.
Aion is not only a centennial marker, but a symbol of Southeastern’s enduring promise: a future of connection, resilience, and progress.
