Marcella del Signore presented “Emotional Geographies of the Mediterranean” at the INFORMATION+ Biennale Conference in Boston, hosted by the MIT Media Lab, the MIT Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism, and Northeastern University. The event gathered researchers, educators, and practitioners in information design and data visualization to discuss how data can engage complex social and environmental issues.
The project explores how data, emotion, and place intersect to build an affective reading of Mediterranean coastlines—how we perceive, inhabit, and emotionally construct these fragile environments. Originally developed for the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, at the Italian Pavilion “Terrae Aquae”, the work proposes new forms of cartography that combine spatial analysis and emotional narratives to inform more sensitive approaches to coastal territories.
