X-Topia, in collaboration with CRG Architects, is proud to share the upcoming realization of Aion, a centennial monument and public art intervention commissioned by Southeastern Louisiana University to celebrate its 100-year legacy and project a collective vision for the future.
Revealed during the university’s 45th Annual Awards Convocation on April 29, Aion was announced by University President William S. Wainwright and outgoing SGA President Kyle Hidalgo as the centerpiece of the future Centennial Plaza, a landmark that will anchor the campus’s eastern gateway near Sims Memorial Library. During the convocation, President Wainwright noted:
“Each year of impact, from Southeastern’s inception in 1925 to 2025, will be represented with an individual blade, with additional blades representing the decades and centuries to come.”
Built with long-lasting, low-maintenance materials, Aion is both symbolic and functional: a sculptural gathering space, a platform for reflection, and a tribute to Southeastern’s evolving role as an institution committed to lifelong learning, intellectual creativity, and critical thinking.
